DUIWOMAN ARRESTED FOR FATAL DRUNK DRIVING ACCIDENT

November 20, 2020

Virginia police recently arrested a woman who they believe was involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision. She is facing multiple criminal charges, including drunk driving and leaving the scene of the accident. She also allegedly refused to submit to breath or blood testing to determine her blood alcohol content, a choice which can potentially influence the outcome of one’s DUI charge.

At around 9:20 p.m. on Nov. 9, 2020, a 51-year-old man was riding as a passenger in a passenger vehicle. As the driver of the vehicle made a turn, they were struck by an oncoming van. Police claim that the 27-year-old woman who was driving the van then exited her vehicle and fled the scene of the accident. She was arrested after she returned a short while later.

The driver of the turning vehicle suffered minor injuries and had to be taken to an area hospital for treatment. The male passenger unfortunately died in the accident. It is not clear if the driver accused of causing the accident suffered any injuries in the collision.

Drunk driving charges can have serious consequences, including jail time, fines and loss of driving privileges. It is possible for a prosecutor to secure a conviction without a recorded BAC, too. Unfortunately, refusing to submit to testing can even reflect poorly on a defendant. Having a knowledgeable legal advocate on one’s side might prove helpful for Virginia defendants who are dealing with this type of situation.
